Supernatural

God is Evident By His Absence

When I read an article in a local newspaper recently telling us that if only we would read the Holy Bible and trust in Jesus Christ, all the ills of our society would vanish. I was astonished that seemingly intelligent people still believe in this nonsense.

Since human beings developed conscious thought, we have conjured up literally thousands of gods and supernatural deities to serve our need for security and to try to understand our world and universe. None has ever been seen, heard of, or had anything to do with human endeavour. Life goes on despite whatever gods we have designed to be servants of our human interests. And interestingly, men have always had a superior role in religions … and still do.

Although I do not believe in a supernatural being, I acknowledge the world and our universe for what it is, a wonderful, remarkable thing, much of which will remain mysterious, I often think that if I was God, I would be devastated. Devastated to think that anyone could attribute such a lot of nonsensical, mumbo-jumbo to me.

If I designed a religion for my creation to follow, every detail would be sensible, perfect and provide for lives of harmony fulfilled with love and peace. It’s truth would so self evident; no-one would doubt it was my work. Even the spelling and grammar would be perfect.

Instead, we have hundreds of religions, many of which claim to be the “one true religion”. We have murders carried out in the name of religion; we have suppression of women or gender inequity in most religions; we have fear and the guilt of sin embedded into us all in the name of a loving God. Worse, we have genital mutilation of children, honour killings, and other horrors.

Until humankind manages to cast off the shackles of religion, we will never be able to attain our true potential. Instead of propelling us forward, religions are holding us back.

What People Believe

It has long astonished me that people will believe some of the most incredibly unlikely supernatural mumbo-jumbo. And the believers aren’t all half-wits, idiots and imbeciles. Clearly they are either people with poor critical thinking abilities, those who are just too lazy to make a focused effort at analyzing the facts, or those who believe the ludicrous stories they are told for no good reason than someone else told them they are true.

Many of them are fundamentalists who believe their holy books were the work a God (their God, of course the only true God) created as their manual; how to live and survive as a human being. Despite the overwhelming evidence that multiple people created the Holy Bible over decades after Jesus Christ had descended wholly into the sky one sunny afternoon, millions of people believe it records ad verbatim the instructions from God.

The Quran is in much the same boat. It has short, unconnected suras that don’t appear in any real order as though they were each a card in a pack of cards that fell on the floor and was swept up haphazardly.

If I was God, I would be highly insulted to think that millions of people thought I would put out such shoddy work. And that I had never upgraded it and left it alone for a few thousand years. All the hatred, violence, terrible things recorded in both texts and the very bad examples are all attributed to me … or my son or prophet. I would be devastated.

If I was God and wanted to impose a religion on my creation, it would be so obvious that everyone would follow it without having to think about it; they would want to do it from the bottom of their hearts. There would be only ONE religion available to everyone and everyone would be treated equally.

Let’s face it. If there was a God who personally looked after each and every one of us, wouldn’t the world be in much better state than it is? Doesn’t the earth, nature and humanity look more like the product of evolution than the product of a supreme being who is omniscient, without flaws and capable of anything?

Why would the most intelligent article in existence let us fall into the trap of original sin, threaten us with an eternity of misery and suffering, create us imperfect with design flaws and more, allow animals and people to suffer needlessly?

Why would I have weeds in my garden and only two sets of teeth to last me for 80 years?

It is obvious to increasing numbers of people. It’s all a delusion we have created for ourselves to explain our unusual and unlikely existence. It makes us feel happy about ourselves thinking that we are part of some amazing plan rather than just pieces of thinking meat that age, deteriorate, die and return to the base matter from which we originated.

These are some of the reasons why I am a non-believer. However, the good thing is that I’m also open minded enough to explore new options. Give me some credible information and if it is logical, consistent and based on reason and science, I’ll be happy to change my mind if the evidence presents.

Unfortunately, the deluded will often not even consider alternative propositions.

Are We the Product of Aliens?

Despite the overwhelming evidence that we are the result of many millenia of evolutionary forces, some people claim that we are in fact the product of aliens. Foremost of these is Rael, the founder of the Raelian Movement.

The Raelians believe that aliens called the Elohim created humanity. This was explained to Rael during his contact with Elohim who asked him to establish an embassy in preparation for their return. According to Rael’s publication, “Intelligent Design: Message from the Designers“, different teams were established to design humans and a competition was held to make it more interesting. What resulted were the five races of man.

Speciation in evolutionary biology can explain why Asian people have different eyes from the rest of us, why Africans are black and Caucasians are mostly white. Had our different races not intermingled, it’s highly probable that we would have speciated so much that we would not be able to procreate inter-racially. Fortunately, we never evolved to that stage.

The Intelligent Design theses begins to fall apart when it falls back on Christian mythology and talks about rewards and punishments for selected people, resulting in eternal life for those selected. Later, Rael claims to have seen living beings created from a machine. These beings are physically identical with us but don’t have souls, so they are used to do menial tasks and also to satisfy our sexual needs; one can simply dial in a prescription and within minutes, pop!, a narrow waisted, beautiful Asian lady with long nipples and gorgeous breasts appears (my fantasy, not Rael’s), ready to relieve one of months or years of pent up sexual energy.

I must admit, by the time I had reached this part of the title, I didn’t bother to keep reading. It all sounded too good … an old theme dressed in different clothes. More bullshit, I thought.

The Wingmakers site, which has been around for a while now also discusses our origins from a group of aliens called “The Wingmakers”. The Wingmakers are the Central Race whose task it is to build and populate worlds. But lurking somewhere so far away as to be unreachable or to communicate with us is the Source … their version of God.

Once again, very similar to the Christian myth.

If you are interested in researching the alien creation theory, both sites are worth having a good look at. In the end, if your brain works well and you have good critical thinking and rationalising skills, you’ll probably reach the same conclusion as me: that we don’t know to what extent, if any, alien intelligences may have affected our evolution. It’s remotely feasible that life does exist on other planets and therefore it is possible they have visited earth and may have done some meddling while here.

An alien germination theory is at least more feasible than creation myths that see the world being created in seven days by some omniscient, omnipotent being who created us in his own image, but as sinners doomed to eternal damnation.

I think I’ll keep my bet where the evidence is, the evidence of evolution and the complete absence of gods and religions that serve our human interests. Being an atheist is liberating as one can still research and consider other views rather than believe that all the questions have been answered and no further exploration is necessary.

What do you think? Are we the product of aliens or evolution?

Have You Lost Your Divine Soul?

If you’ve lost your divine soul, there’s no need to panic. Dr Zhi Gang Sha can help you find it. Not only that, he can show you how to download soul software to help you do a number of remarkable things.

Does this sound intriguing? Read on.

One day, two hard bound books mysteriously appeared on my desk (probably from out of the ether). They were two books of the Soul Power Series, “The Power of Soul” and “Divine Soul Mind Body Healing and Transmission System” by none other than Dr Zhi Gang Sha, whom I had never heard of. I quickly flicked through them and was surprised that they were published by a reputable publisher, a Division of Simon Schuster, Inc. and labelled with $26 and $27 price tags.

When I read the first few pages wherein Dr Sha spoke about receiving messages from the Divine, I decided that the content was definitely not for me. How many deluded souls have claimed to have received messages from God, to have been the son of God, or to be the last prophet of God? This sounded like the writings of another mentally deranged individual. Another one who believes in one of tens of thousands of gods who have been fabricated by humankind over millenia to make us feel better about ourselves.

Here’s the write-up of Dr Sha in Wikipedia so you’ll get the drift.

Dr. Sha states that he became channel for the Divine in July 2003, when the Divine appeared to him at a retreat in Toronto. He was taught how to download “soul software” into people and was given authority as a divine channel to download new souls from the Divine, clear personal karma and ancestral tree karma, and create divine healers, divine writers, divine editors and more

Hmmm. I’ve always been a freethinker and the freethinker in me told me that I should at least spend the time to read these books before calling Dr Sha a nutcase. I’ve tried several times to read more than 10-15 pages and I just can’t seem to make it any further because I get bogged down with mumbo jumbo and wonder why I’m wasting my valuable time.

When someone tells you he has been spoken to by a Divine being for which there is and never has been one iota of evidence, and that by reading certain paragraphs in his books, you can receive a “soul download” that will help you achieve enlightenment, improve your business and finances, prevent sickness, improve longevity … and much more, you have to be a little skeptical. And I am an atheist, after all.
